Communicating the Global Coral Reef Crisis
Coral reefs, with their intricate structures and kaleidoscopic hues, are not only a source of aesthetic inspiration but also a poignant symbol of nature’s fragility and resilience.
In the face of their rapid decline, art can offer more than reflection; it can serve as a powerful tool to inspire, educate, and drive collective action.

About
The Coral Art–Science Consortium is a nonprofit initiative led by scientists and artists dedicated to protecting coral reefs through storytelling, collaboration, and environmental awareness. Led by a diverse group of researchers and creatives, the consortium connects art and science to inspire ocean conservation.
Toward a Global Campaign and Call to Action.
We envision a future that will feature synchronized events, coral-themed festivals, virtual exhibitions, and participatory projects. By fostering shared responsibility, such a movement could transform isolated efforts into a cohesive cultural response.
Our growing network of artists, designers, and scientists collaborates to drive this shared mission and engage communities worldwide
Project Leaders

“My fascination with coral reefs began as a child while diving in the Red Sea, where I was captivated by the vibrant, kaleidoscopic world hidden beneath the surface. That sense of wonder ultimately led me to become a coral reef scientist. Today, as reefs face unprecedented challenges, I believe that the combination of science, art, and imagination can inspire people to care, act, and create a future in which these extraordinary ecosystems continue to thrive for generations to come.”

“I was first drawn to coral reefs by their vibrant colors by day and their mesmerizing fluorescence by night. Over the years I discovered how complex these ecosystems are, how little we know about them, and the immense effect public engagement can have on their future. Photographing their glowing beauty showed me how powerful visual aesthetics can be in sparking curiosity, fostering empathy, and connecting my science with art.”

“Nature is magic. And to me, coral reefs, the most magical places on Earth.
There came a point when studying them was no longer enough. Watching these extraordinary ecosystems disappear before my eyes awakened a deeper calling: to bring together a community united by the urgency of protecting them.
The remarkable group of like-minded people who have come together through this consortium gives me renewed hope that, together, we can chart a path forward. One that inspires collective
action and drives meaningful change.
I hope you will join us.”
