Courtney
Mattison
Courtney Mattison is an internationally recognized artist and ocean advocate whose large-scale ceramic sculptures bring attention to the beauty and vulnerability of coral reef ecosystems. Combining her background in marine ecology, environmental studies, and ceramic sculpture, Mattison creates intricate works inspired by coral formations and marine biodiversity to visualize the impacts of climate change on the oceans. Her relationship with coral reef awareness is central to her artistic practice. Through hand-crafted ceramic installations that resemble thriving and bleaching reefs, Mattison highlights the fragility of marine ecosystems threatened by warming oceans, pollution, and biodiversity loss. Her work transforms scientific and environmental research into emotionally powerful visual experiences that encourage audiences to reflect on humanity’s relationship with the ocean.
In collaboration with marine scientists and organizations such as Mission Blue, Mattison has used art as a platform for ocean advocacy, education, and storytelling. Her sculptures have been exhibited internationally in museums, public institutions, and environmental initiatives, helping to raise global awareness about coral reef conservation and the urgent need to protect marine life for future generations.
